Jason Fotopoulos: The first win!
Jason Fotopoulos may be one of the best Greek competitors in the Regularity category, but this was his (and his codrivers' Aristotelis Georgiou) first Historic Acropolis Rally win. The crew shared, as usual, an Alfa Romeo GT Veloce 200 and claimed the win in the two day event, which started under the Acropolis and was located in Kamena Vourla.
Jason Fotopoulos was born in 1969 and is network technician. He made his first Regularity attempt in 2006, co driven by Aristotelis Georgiou, in his beloved Alfa Romeo GT Veloce 2000. After that, he has a great career in the category and has clinched several titles. Jason Fotopoulos and Aristotelis Georgiou won the 2007 European Trophy for Regularity category, while he also won the 2007 and 2008 Greek titles. The only big title missing so far from their collection was the Historic Acropolis Rally win, something they managed this year.
Jason Fotopoulos was proved to be a maitre of strategy, after clinching the win by the end of the event, when many top crews faced difficulties. At that time the winners were also lucky, because of leaders' Apostolos Papanikos Triumph GT6+ instrument failure, which made their task easier. Despite the fact that Jason Fotopoulos has claimed many titles, he badly wanted to win the Historic Acropolis Rally and this is the reason why he felt so happy about it, as he stated. After this castle, what is left for Jason Fotopoulos, Aristotelis Georgiou and their Alfa Romeo GT Veloce 2000?
